This is our list of the best antivirus plus antispyware software for protection of your PC.  Please scroll down for the list of effective combinations. These are the top single programs and combinations for maximum protection - the most effective antivirus, antispyware, and firewall  programs available. We recommend the following programs for virus removal and protection. All of these have been tested, evaluated, and rated by AV Comparatives, and they are over 99% effective for Windows virus removal.  (1) Avast (99.5%), (2) Kapersky (99.3%), and (3) Avira (99.9%), and BitDefender (99.7%). Avast and Avira have free versions, Kapersky and Trend Micro have paid versions only.
 
We recommend these programs for malware, spyware, and adware problems:
 
(1) SuperAntiSpyware, (2) Spyware Doctor, and (3) CA Anti-Spyware, with (4) Spybot as an optional scanner.   Spyware Warrior has tested and rated these and they are among their recommended programs.  All of them come in a free version, or a paid, upgrade version.

Of course, MalwareBytes gets a pretty good review by anyone who has used it.

The Avira AntiVir Personal Edition  ( free ) has been tested by us and we found it to be effective and very compatible with the antispyware programs.  A good choice, if you would like to use something other than Avast.  A combination that we really like is the Avira Antivirus and the SuperAntiSpyware Professional.
 
8. Kapersky Labs Solutions : Kapersky is one of the best single programs with multiple applications.  It combines antivirus, antispyware, firewall, the works. It has one of the highest ratings at the AV-Comparatives website.
 
9. CA Internet Security - One of the highest rated (the original Pest Patrol) by Spyware Warrior and others. A complete security suite, includes firewall, antivirus plus antispyware, parental controls, anti-spam, anti-phishing. Protection For Up To 5 PCs with this license.
